Meet the Owners

Cathie Reid

Stuart Giles

Prominent Queensland business leaders Cathie Reid AM and Stuart Giles have put together a diverse and impressive ownership crew to launch the Southern Rockets into the 2021 BPL that is frankly, out of this world! Cathie (currently training herself to head to space as a Future Astronaut with Virgin Galactic) will add Chairing the Rockets to her impressive resume whilst Stuart’s background as a state schoolboy cricketer and overseas player in the UK illustrates his long-term love of the game. A shared love of the game of cricket and a desire to do good throughout the community is the common link throughout the remainder of the Rocket’s Ownership Group.

Luke Hodge

Luke Hodge is best known as one of the most respected and toughest AFL players of all time. As a four-time premiership player at the Hawthorn Football Club including three times as premiership captain and having also been adjudged best afield in the grand final on two occasions, Luke is known as the definitive final’s player of his era. Less well known was the fact he was an exceptionally promising junior cricketer prior to Hawthorn selecting him with Pick 1 in the 2001 “Super” Draft, a talent he drew on last year to dismiss Adam Gilchrist when asked to participate in the Bushfire Relief fundraising game.

Usman Khawaja

Usman Khawaja needs little introduction to cricket fans and supporters all over the world. The Pakistani-born Australian cricketer and qualified pilot has become one of the most recognisable sports people on the planet. A left-handed top order batsman, Khawaja became the first Muslim and first Pakistani-born Australian to receive an Australian Cricket Test baggy green cap. Khawaja played his first test in 2011 against England at the Sydney Cricket Ground and has been a feature at the top of the Australian batting order for the last decade. Usman has been the captain of the Queensland Bulls since 2015 and remains under contract for Sydney Thunder, Queensland Cricket and Cricket Australia having represented Australia in all three forms of the game – Tests, One Day and T20 Internationals.

Andrew McShea

Andrew McShea is a senior sports executive with over 20 years’ experience working for leading consumer and sporting brands. Andrew spent the last 10 years as General Manager of the Brisbane Heat, overseeing both the BBL and WBBL Heat teams whilst leading the Heat to success with award winning marketing, commercial and digital success.  Andrew is now the Managing Director of Play Sports Marketing (PSM), a sports marketing agency that works with brands, teams and athletes.

James Morton

A/Prof James Morton AM is an experienced clinical haematologist at Icon Cancer Centre South Brisbane and Icon Cancer Centre Chermside, and is Director of Haematology at Icon Group. He was born in Brisbane and received his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Queensland in 1987 (University Gold Medal) before embarking on an illustrious medical career that sees him identified as a global leader in his field. In January 2015 A/Prof Morton was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his significant service to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders through not-for-profit organisations, and to medicine in the field of oncology. In June 2020 he was named A Queensland Great for his contribution to oncology and advocacy for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Martin Robinson

Martin Robinson has led over US$2 billion of healthcare investments/exits across Asia, Australia, Africa and the Middle East since 2010. A Brisbane boy (and former schoolboy state cricketer and UQ Opening Batsman) Martin returned to Brisbane in 2019 after nearly 15 years based in South East Asia, including working as Managing Director and Head of Healthcare for a multi-billion dollar private investment group based in Singapore from 2012 until his return. He is now the Managing Director of HEAL Partners, an Australian led global Health, Education and Lifestyle Growth Fund investment business.
